Costochondritis

So yesterday I went to the emergency room. Now don't freak out anybody. I am fine. Since I was a young teenager 12 or 13 probably I have had occasional chest pain. The pain would be sharp and would come in bursts. And within a few minutes it was gone so I did what I could do to get through the excruciating pain and then I just kind of poo-pooed it off. Silly me I know. After years of this happening every few months I began to wonder"Am I having mini heart attacks?" But still I did nothing. Then when I got married and it would happen Josh would tell me,"You really need to get that checked out." I never listened. Anyways, yesterday I was just hanging out at home and all the sudden I had the pains again. They were very strong and didn't really go away like normal. So I called my Dad and he took me to the emergency room. I figured I should get there while the pain was still happening, so that way maybe it would be easier to figure out what was going on. It was amazing how quickly I was taken care of at St. Lukes. I love that place! They kept telling me when they hear that someone has chest pain they take it very seriously and they move very quickly. So I had a bunch of tests very quickly including a Cat Scan. I had a bunch of different monitors on that were hooked to different sticker like things all over my body. It was all very interesting and I was glad to find out everything checked out fine. The doctor did say however that I have Costochondritis. And I have ghad this several different times in my life. I put a link to Web MD's definition of this condition for anyone who is interested. There is really no treatment for this condition except for pain meds and Ibuprofen. Which is nice to know that I can take from here on out. So I am glad I found out what was going on but I wish I didn't have to pay the ER expense to find out. Oh well, better safe than sorry.

Oh dear, when I read your blog title, I read it COSTCOchondritis. And the whole time I was trying to see where Costco would come in the story. Ha ha!

I'm glad that you're not ill. That would be sad!

My sis-in-law is excited to be your assistant in Sunbeams! Take good care of her! :)

I did the same thing when I read the title. I thought it was going to be some funny story about a bad experience at Costco or something! Glad to hear you are ok and that it is treatable at home! ER charges are never fun, but I swear by St Lukes Meridian, it is the best!

I am SO glad that you finally were able to get it checked out! I have thought about you often since we talked about it at the Bake's. Everything describes your situation. I am so thrilled that it is not super serious and very manageable. What a relief!
